SSTV is way cool. A cheap antenna, easy to make yourself. A cheap receiver, $50 Baofeng. Some software on your iPhone to track the ISS and to decode the signal.

Once a day the ISS flies over at a reasonable time. Sometimes it’s not more than 30°C above the horizon, sometimes straight over you. At dust you will see the sun reflection shooting through the sky.

The first picture was on a quiet late night. Barely above the horizon. But it was heard. And it decoded.

For the second picture, the timing was perfect! 18:00, dusk, still some light outside, 85° elevation, the dot was visible from start to finish, straight above me. The temperature was still very nice. Life would be perfect! And together whenever the receiver started to give the signal, crickets started to chirp loudly in the bushes behind me….

Being sick at home means I can at least grab my antenna and ham radio and listen to the strange noises from the ISS on my terrasse again.
As far as I know this is the first time they are sending SSTV images on the 70cm band?
