Happy to have a paper, a performance and an 'alt.nime' contribution accepted to NIME (new interfaces for musical express) conference London !

The paper is a collaborative one, about Uzu languages, the draft is here https://codeberg.org/uzu/nime2026/src/branch/main/uzu.pdf , we'll work on it some more so feedback very welcome (although already have a lot of feedback about the typos etc)

The 'alt nime' thingie is this fun paper with @danstowell , about learning the pyramid tala:
https://codeberg.org/Algopaca/pyramid-paper/src/branch/main/pyramid-paper.pdf

The performance will be a collaboration with top drummer Matt Davies, also exploring the pyramid tala.

Anyone else going to nime?

#electronicmusic #computermusic #hci #NIME anyone using external touchscreen monitors as a control surface - looking for recommendations for something robust for gigging and that also is good as a drawing surface for #inkscape - small enough to put a pair in ryainair handluggage so something like 18" is 4k worth double?

TIL that Jerusalem artichokes and artichokes are not the same.

I did make a recipe with artichokes instead of Jerusalem artichokes. (The artichoke and potato hash.) Still tasted nice, but it wasn't the right recipe.

Unfortunately, quite a few recipes in the NiMe cookbook want Jerusalem artichokes, and these seem to be rare around here.

"Would you like French fries with that?"

"Yes."

[Later]

"Waiter! There's a problem with my order."

"Oh?"

"These fries are not French."

"What makes you say that?"

"They speak Spanish!"

I've made three recipes from the NiME cookbook:

Rice Pudding (twice)
Breakfast Hash (it is cooking right now)
Artichoke and Bean Salad

I made the rice pudding for breakfast, but the other too for supper. I don't give a flying fuck that they are supposed to be lunch.

Oh and I always double the quantities. I'm still autistic, and I like to make batches that last.

I don't like rice pudding, as a rule. It's a texture thing. But trying this one as it actually sounds good. Brown rice pudding.

You can download the cookbook for free, or just read it on this website:

I went to the grocery store twice this weekend.

"OMG! Are you ill?"

No, I wanted to try recipes from the cookbook I mentioned above. I'm going to try the Rice Pudding and the Artichoke and Beans recipes. The Artichoke and Beans one is especially easy: combine ingredients, eat!

I've watched the latest Ann Reardon video on probiotics. I learned a few things.

In the video, they mention "Non-industrialized Microbiome restore" diet (NiMe diet). There's a document with recipes that I'm linking to below.

Next week is NIME week! Not going this year – Canberra is way too far from Berlin – but I finally uploaded my presentation from last year. Features the Sophtar and a somewhat pretentious digression about magic, ergodynamics, and a quote from a book by Benjamin Labatut #NIME #NewInstruments #Sophtar http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bcftQWdpFw0 https://www.federicovisi.com/sophtar-presentation-at-nime-2024/?utm_source=mastodon&utm_medium=jetpack_social

I'm happy to be (online) presenting a paper at #NIME next week! I'll be talking about the Memory Cloud instrument, specifically diving into how it was used by two professional musicians. I use it as an example of what I call "Radically Microscale Design", drawing on sustainable HCI, constraints-based design, and how affordances can be built between players, instruments, and sonic content.
