Another #FrรผchteFreitag post ... On Wednesday, I finally managed to dig up all my #JerusalemArtichokes. At least, I hope I did! ๐Ÿ˜‚ There were way too many, so I asked in our village chat group if anyone wanted some #tubers, and within 15 minutes, a lady came to pick up a bag. ๐Ÿ˜€

I roasted a few but made the mistake of not peeling them first. It was disgusting, the peel was really bitter. ๐Ÿ˜ซ Still, I've kept some to try again (peeled this time), and I reckon they'll be really good. I'll also plant a few more, but this time in a container.

Last year I planted 27 #sunchokes #jerusalemartichokes and this morning I harvested this from just 7 of them, not counting the tubers I left to grow for this year.

I have 20 more to harvest...

I've already reached out to a bunch of neighbors to see if they want any!

I have emptied a very large pot (90 litres) that once had some of my #JerusalemArtichokes in it.

My #Cherokee #seedlings can move to there now - once I buy a few more bags of potting mix.

The problem now is - what to do with the totally root bound plug of potting mix that was in it?

Hello world. I may have dug up slightly too many Jerusalem artichokes for one person. #HomeGrown #JerusalemArtichokes #Sunchokes

They're a lot taller than me, so I could only photograph them from below. I took this photo 2.5 weeks ago, when they fiiiinally bloomed. Now, with the first night frosts, they're already dead. I probably should dig out the tubers, though. Last year, I had two plants and only dug up one of them. Its tubers were so tiny and unusable that I couldn't be bothered to dig out the other. But this year, a whole forest of them popped up! They even grew on the neighbouring plot, oops. ๐Ÿ˜…

They're nice in a salad of shredded carrots and apples, though the taste is quite earthy. I've never tried them cooked. My rabbits loved them back in the day. I remember shipping a shoebox full of tubers to another member of an online rabbit forum I used to frequent, because my parents had so many #JerusalemArtichoke plants. ๐Ÿ˜

Another flower from the Jerusalem artichioke which recently gave up the ghost in our back garden, thanks to recent storms.
