Un innovativo sistema di telecamere alimentato da intelligenza artificiale è attualmente in fase di sperimentazione nello stato del Queensland, in Australia, con l’obiettivo di identificare i koala che attraversano la strada durante la notte. Queste telecamere potrebbero essere integrate in segnali stradali intelligenti per avvisare gli automobilisti della possibile presenza di koala in prossimità delle strade. Gli incidenti stradali rappresentano una delle principali cause di mortalità per questi marsupiali, spesso costretti a spostarsi per attraversare strade a causa della continua frammentazione degli habitat dovuta alla deforestazione e all’urbanizzazione.
