@rl_dane #FreeBSD and #OpenBSD are currently #neckbeard-and-neckbeard!

Silly #Poll: where are you along the #neckbeard pipeline?

(Note: the neckbeard is metaphorical. No actual facial hair required)

Also, please remember #DanesLaw: no matter how carefully someone attempts to construct a poll, the very first comment will usually expose a glaring oversight. That's just how it goes.

Did you know, that I have no idea about Linux?
Yet I manage lots of servers in private and professionally.

@lanodan @lizzy granted, the #FSF is a sad exception from the norm and we can see with the pushback against shit like it or #Framework sponsoring #DHH the kind of #toxic "#Neckbeard" that #Lunduke et. al. want is not being tolerated anymore.

Why Richard Stallman's Return to the FSF Is Not To Be Celebrated ...

@fbievan

For a long time. I came in at the very beginning of the mass #Twexodus in early 2022*, and posted a couple helpful "How to #Fediverse" kind of toots, which got boosted to the moon, somehow.

Every now and then (like maybe once a year), I tap into the #neckbeard #zeitgeist and get boosted to the moon, like hundreds of boosts.

No idea, man. I have no idea why so many people follow me.

I just toot nerdy things that make me happy, for the most part. Occasionally #USPOL stuff, but honestly pretty rarely.

* I had actually joined #fedi in late 2018, tried it out for a bit, then quit. Then I joined again in 2019, and just had it on a very slow burn while I used other networks for my primary social stuff. I went all-in to the fediverse/#Mastodon in 2022.

Debian's next stable release, Trixie, is getting really close to being released. Exciting times!

I'm in #neckbeard land, y'all.

OK, I'm done making fun of #Skiatook. May the tag be found on a future date.

PS. The city manager has a #neckbeard, wears safety orange & goes by the name "Buck."

@centopus personally, I see @AsahiLinux as a "canary" project in that regard.

@linuxfoundation and @torvalds need to enshure that toxicity and neighsayers are toned down way harder, cuz bullying people like #marcan into quitting isn't gonna help anyone and will only damage #Linux by making it look like the "#Neckbeard" #TechBro shitshow that #Lunduke, RMS et. al. stan for...

  • I literally know a shitload of trans, non-binary or just non-#WHCM [white hetero/cis (binary) male] persons who refuse to even consider upstreaming or contributing to #Linux, #GNU or any #FLOSS projects at all due to the sheer #toxicity observed externally.

And that is a problem even if we don't care about #diversity, #equity and #inclusiom but merely the #survival of said #OpenSource projects!

  • Cuz why would I (or anyone else) want to work with/on/for a company/project that'll get me (deservedly [!!!]) side-eyed at best if not unfriended by the few people I care about personally?
