Also seen at the air and space museum visit -- GIANT SPIDER CRAB! 🦀
This, of course, reminded me of our episode on the #zodiac #constellation Cancer where Jordan taught me about how evolution keeps producing #crabs (or more formally carcinisation) 🦀 🦀 🦀
Check out our season 1 episode featuring the #astronomy & #mythology of the constellation Cancer ♋ PLUS a Creature Corner segment about CRABS here: https://starrytimepodcast.podbean.com/e/cancer-the-crab/

I've just been biten in a toe by a ladybug larvae that had sneaked in the house with some farm produce 😳
It actually hurts a little.
@Cetraria now I know it's not only the adult ones
😅
Are you kidding me?? I was (quite obsessively) checking the camera earlier and I started remote recording because OMG there's two hedgehogs! And then this happened! 😱 (Looks like they weren't even impressed, lol)

Continuing this thread because I found an abutilon flower where you can clearly see the holes in the side of the flower, left there by the "honeythief" bird. And even better, these honeybees have discovered they can also make use of the holes, accessing the nectar from the side of the flower! Ha. #pollinators not pollinating. I have so many questions.
I love Abutilon flowers. When I was little, I was fascinated by the fact there is a bird that specializes in pinching the base of the flowers to get to the nectar. The bird is called "flower pincher" (pinchaflor) or "honey thief" (robamiel).
You can tell if a bird has visited the flower because it leaves a tiny hole at the base of the petals.
But why call it a "thief"? Because by pinching the flowers from the outside, it gets the nectar without helping with pollination!
