Two Checkerspot Butterflies
We took a short hike up Mitchell Canyon at Mt Diablo State Park yesterday. Plenty of butterflies (swallowtails and checkerspots) and some wildflowers too. I couldn't quite figure out which variety these two were. The upper one looks like either a Leanira Checkerspot or a Variable Checkerspot. The lower one looks like a Northern Checkerspot.

Brian YuenI never realized some of the incredible #waterfalls just in our own backyard in the #Mtdiablostatepark at #MtDiablo. Of course, I’m a little sore from the strenuous #hike, but the memories and pictures were well worth the time and effort.
