The Borrowed Christmas (2014) is a faith-based holiday movie/surreal fever dream about renting a family for Christmas. Unintentionally creepy, weirdly earnest, and absolutely unforgettable—for reasons it probably didn’t intend.

The Unsettling Sincerity: Deconstructing the Unaware Horror of The Borrowed Christmas

The Borrowed Christmas (2014) feels like one big, elaborate, absurdist anti-joke, but it’s actually a deathly straight, extremely misguided, feel-good, faith-based family flick. Either way, I was m…

Picking apart An Aspen Christmas Conspiracy (2025) and its baffling choices, including a dog named Jimmy Stewart, a judge named Reinhold, and a “conspiracy” that barely qualifies as paperwork.

The Architecture of Contrivance: Structural and Ethical Failures in An Aspen Christmas Conspiracy

An Aspen Christmas Conspiracy (2025) could be set in any other place during any other time of the year. It’s not much of a conspiracy, either. The film’s narrative architecture is fundamentally und…

DEATH VALLEY (2015) — a dusty little thriller with a strong middle act, sun-baked cinematography, and characters who make dehydration look like a lifestyle choice. Uneven writing, odd baggage, still surprisingly watchable.

The Parody Paradox and the Prosaic Epilogue: Structural Coherence and Tonal Dissonance in Death Valley

Death Valley (2015) has a pretty decent middle section that uses the unforgiving isolation of the desert as a psychological crucible to expose the moral decay festering beneath the protagonists’ ap…

When your horror movie’s big scare is... a forced grin. 🫠 My breakdown of Smile — a film that mistakes grimacing for terror and trauma for depth. Spoiler: I wasn’t scared.

Smile (2022)

Smile’s biggest problem, other than being a derivative Final Destination/The Ring hybrid knockoff, is right there in the title — and it trickles all the way down to the (anti)climax. I get wa…

90% of Everything is Crap

Rewatching Spike Jonze's Her today, and I couldn’t help but draw parallels between the main character writing fake letters and modern-day AI chatbots like ChatGPT.

The way those fictional letters were crafted to evoke emotions feels eerily similar to how AI can generate text today.

It really makes me question the film’s underlying message about connection and authenticity in a world of artificial intelligence. 🤖💌

After watching Gone In 60 Seconds last night
(#oldfavourite), I have realised that Sphinx would never have harmed the dog that ate the keys. He was simply implying that he could cut the dog open, remove the keys, and stitch him back up again. As a morgue worker, he would likely have a decent understanding of internal organs at worst, and have performed autopsies at best. He would have been able to retrieve the keys quickly, surgically, probably saving them MUCH needed time. However, as it put the young ones to work instead and freed him and others for simultaneous boosts, it was probably better they took the path they did.

Mississippi Burning really was such a perfectly good movie and Hackman & Defoe deliver magnificent performances. Both movie & performances should always be in the mix of top ten discussions & I will forever be salty that they aren't.

There's so many who are horrified by Patrick Bateman and most of the people around him, and yet large swaths of the population have way more in common with them than they'd ever want to believe, admit or care about.

Maybe that's what was missed in the ending, the message was for lots of ppl and it won't mean anything because they are just like Patrick and or his friends, acquaintances & or vast majority of his colleagues. #AmericanPsycho #BretEastonEllis #MaryHarron #BookThoughts #MovieThoughts
