Planted another plastic bucket of #ölands wheat berries today. The other bucket is growing like crazy so it seemed a shame not to. I'm using basic (cheap) peat-free topsoil which should be about as good as the soil in real fields. If all goes well I'll be using the #mockmill100 to grind what will surely be a minuscule amount of flour for a tiny loaf 😄
Hoorah! My reptile heating mat and thermostat have arrived, so now my #bread proofing box (Cambro food delivery box) can have a constant internal temperature. It takes about 30 minutes to get the empty box up to 82' F which is just about right given slight temperature variations. Current ambient room temperature is 62' F 😄 Hopefully that's one more variable sorted, and I'm being extra careful with water temperature this time. Fingers crossed - we'll see what comes out the other end...

Today's the day it's stopped raining long enough to get some more plants in the ground, but of mire significance is the fact that I've planted out some wheat berries in large year's 5L spud buckets (with vent holes drilled). One bucket of #Emmer from my Bakerybits-sourced grain and one of #Ölands, sourced from the Brockwell Bake folks in Brockwell, London. Baking a 2Lb/1Kg loaf today using Holdfast wheat. I left the bran etc in this time when I milled it. The first rise is something else: "leave to rise until doubled in size" 😱

Today in #homebaking I'm trying a "white" loaf, again with #mulika grain and have sifted out all the bran (will be used to make muesli) with a 0.5mm sieve. It's currently at the autolyse stage and then it'll be time for the Saturday #dogwalk. It's all go here! Well, I must say that today's #breadmaking with the new #Mockmill100 and #mulika (population) wheat berries has taken my craft to a whole new level! I sifted out the bran using a coarse sieve and we'll have that for breakfast - it'll be left in next time. Delighted to say that my go-to bread recipe worked well for fresh-milled flour, and the flavour is just amazing. If anyone has recommendations for UK wheat berry suppliers, please shout!

First lot of wheat berries through my Mockmill! Unfortunately the first batch is used to clean any debris out of the machine during manufacture so I can’t use it. The flour is really fine and looks great. Hoping to get my next sourdough done after Christmas. I can’t wait.
