Some 60 people gathered to map buildings in Ituri, DRC. They advanced an urgent Ebola 2026 project on the HOT Tasking Manager last week at a mapathon with Médecins Sans Frontières Belgium.
The @openstreetmap data is used for security mapping, to optimize the delivery of supplies, and for orientation of field teams in this response.

@DoctorsWithoutBorders #MissingMaps team found that identifying buildings on @mapswipe was not always evident, so @bluestarfish created an @openstreetmap Wiki remote mapping guide for the #Twiccounty. A network analysis also led to opening more road mapping projects on the HOT Tasking Manager.

This month we joined the "Open Geospatial Technologies in Humanitarian & Environmental Mapping" program at the University of Prešov. We introduced open geotech to students from Slovakia, Slovenia, Poland, France, Romania & Nigeria through lectures, a Bardejov field workshop & a Missing Maps mapathon for Indonesia.

Great to meet people who see open data & community mapping not just as tools, but as a mindset!

Until your new OSM account gets rate-limited, that is 😄 Apparently that just happens at every Mapathon with beginners, no way around it. We did MapSwipe as we waited - also great, I foresee a lot of swiping in my near future.

This week is a bit crazy for me and I was questioning myself when I signed up for this, but absolutely no regrets, I really had fun. 2/2

I attended a cool event yesterday, a "Mapathon" for the Missing Maps project (https://missingmaps.org/). We learned about Missing Maps, about Medicins Sans Frontieres and their activities in South Sudan (which we would be mapping), how to pick up a mapping task at HOT Task Manager (https://tasks.hotosm.org/), and finally how to work in JOSM. Pretty easy when someone walks you through it, and honestly a fun activity. 1/2

A big thanks to the @MapRoulette team. Last week I reported a bug and it got fixed within a day. Actually, it got fixed during the London Missing Maps mapathon while I was talking about a #MapRoulette project so the timing was impeccable!
