We're on another #lutruwita #Tasmania adventure! This time in my lovely #mitsubishi #minicabMiEV. Got the boat across (car travel for free special) and have managed the following itinerary so far since 7am today:
#Penguin
#Burnie
#Waratah
#Tullah
#Queenstown
There is EV charging at our bnb, which also has a lovely view over the town. We are here for 3 days and plan to do the Wilderness Railway, Strahan, and little side trips from town. Queentown itself is so interesting. It's got the most stunning mountain ringed backdrop, and the old miners cottages everywhere are in various stages of disrepair and refurbishment. There are clearly quite a few characters locally. But it really is stunning. As was the drive down. It's nice actually to be forced to take it slow and charge regularly. Have met several people who are not from Tasmania, in fact everyone I've had a conversation with so far in which I've learned where they are from, 100% are not from Tasmania (but live here). The guy running the local chippy/pizzeria has an epic ginga beard, but I do not know if he's local. And the chips were delicious.
After here we plan to visit near #Scottsdale for a #Workaway experience which I am just as excited about! HMU if you are somewhere along the way between here and there, and would like to meetup!
@mike you probably wouldn't if you weren't in the market for an imported Mitsubishi #MinicabMiEV or an EV conversion in QLD, he basically worked out how to put a battery with double the range in the exact same footprint in the Minicab-MiEV, rewrote the software to get it to run reliably, and sells upgrade kits to EV workshops around the world. I'm a bit of a fan girl, but honestly this is simply the BEST vehicle and weighs half a modern ute (yes that's including the upgraded battery). He's also doing cruise control and other improvements.
If you're in the market for getting a non-EV electrified you'll also know it's generally extremely expensive, so getting knowledge to DIY from anyone who's successfully done so many, is really valuable.
I'm finally on my way to picking up my replacement #minicabMiEV which took FOREVER to be shipped from Japan due to incredible shipping delays and port congestion. Then tomorrow I have to drive out past Geelong, so the battery can get replaced with my (slightly old now) upgraded battery.
First minivan was called Toraku. Need a name for new van. Suggestions?
omg I AM SOOOOO EXCITED!!!
I just got an email from my import agent, my replacement #mistubishi #minicabMiEV has been flashed and the power box is now WORKING!!!
So he can book it for transport from #Japan to #Australia now. I don't think it will get here before Xmas, but maybe it will? This might impact my holiday plans... but probably not a lot, and I might even be able to get someone to drive it out to EDM for the #batteryupgrade if I'm away but honestly it would make me sad not to do that myself, and I want to at least try out the power box before the upgrade which might actually make it stop working (or something else weirdly catastrophic - I like to live dangerously?)
As I know NO ONE in the EV community in Australia who has done this yet (even though the 2022 "leisure" campervan version ships with one), I am really super, SUPER excited.
.. maybe I need to have an account on #Japan Mastodon and see if there are other #minicabMiEV owners here in the Fediverse.
btw, as something of an #introduction, if any new users (or returnees like mahself) want to follow me I may post in the future about things like:
