I was happy to be able to witness this carving of a monument over the course of 6 months from a solid cube of granite to the finished product. The sculptor ,Samantha Newman, was working in the cemetery down the street from me as an artist in residence to create this for an unmarked grave of adults and children who died of contagious diseases over 100 years ago.
