The Monument to Columbus is a
#bronze #stone and #concrete #monument in #valladolid #spain where Columbus died in 1506.

It is located on the centre of Plaza de Colón. Four seated statues representing #study #history #nautics and #value lie on the four corners of the monument.

In 2019 the monument was covered in red paint and graffiti.

Patches of original 11th c Byzantine brickwork are exposed beneath the shell of white stucco spread over St. Sophia in the 17thc.

A cathedral with ice cream on top: St. Sophia Cathedral in Kyiv was built in the 11th c. Originally Byzantine in style, the exterior was redone in the 17th c in Ukrainian Baroque. They've since striped away some of that white plaster cladding to show how the original looked.

On this particular day with a snow white sky and snow covered ground it looks like the original brick building was covered in ice cream which is slowly melting away.
