Our #MannaFoodbank, recovering in amazing fashion after hurricane Helene destroyed their entire operation last September said in their newsletter:

" In October alone, our network served more than 221,000 neighbor visits—the highest in MANNA’s 42-year history. "

If you're in a position to do so, this might be a good time to think about the food-insecure neighbors in your own community.

And here in the #Asheville area, our lovely #MannaFoodbank was completely destroyed, as their operation was right next to the Swannanoa River when #Helene hit last September.

They've relocated, but have been struggling to replace their refrigeration areas, and all of their other systems.

Our US Rep, Chuck Edwards, was working with the Biden admin and FEMA to get us the help we need to rebuild, but hey, here we now are.

And this tool voted for the ugly, horrible budget they just passed.

Manna has been overwhelmed with need after Helene. Now? Ye gods.

Just home to #va from #wnc in record time. Via i40 i840 us29 On i40 damage worsened east of #swannanoa : old fort Marion almost to statesville #nc. Almost 200 miles east of the peaceful eye of the storm in #claycountync, destruction.

#mannafoodbank trucks on the move in #wnc, #wnclivestockcenter was a hub of buzzing activity with supply trucks circulating in and cars trucks and people moving in and out.

Kudos to #nc for getting roads up and running - only one right lane closure.

We support https://www.mannafoodbank.org our local food bank. Their most recent newsletter was disheartening - in June they helped 155,000 people, but in July it was up to 163,000.

That’s almost twice the population of #Asheville, and more than half that of #BuncombeCounty. In a month.

Charity should not be keeping our citizens fed. Why can we not do better?

My local, #MannaFoodbank has just reported that in one month in May this year they helped 155,000 individuals in #WNC. That is up from generally 65,000 people prior to 2020.

15% of #NC needs SNAP support for food. One in 4 students in my area get subsidized lunches.

These are huge, mind-blowing numbers of real people in need. Please stop voting for #Republicans who want to make all of this worse. There's only so much an individual can do against an actively hostile government framework.

To start this shiny new month, I decided to #donate to a few organizations we try to support.

National #LWV to defend voting rights

@MotherJones for all they do

#MannaFoodbank of WNC to aid our neighbors dealing with food insecurity, especially with school ending soon.
