Chapter 2: "Volunteers Get to Shop from Whatever Food They Are Picking Up and Delivering. . . . Our volunteer positions are offered primarily to people who are themselves recipients [cuz it guarantees] that all of us have true compassion for those we serve, and letting our volunteers help themselves to as much as they want . . . makes theft impossible . . . What we have noticed, however, is that our volunteers only take what they need for themselves, their families, and/or people they know who could use some extra food but cannot get direct access to our programs."

Highlights: After Easter, cases and cases of eggs for a few weeks (organic & conventional). After Cinco de Mayo, tons of salsas, Cotija cheese, avocados (org & conv.), tortilla chips.

Fruit highlight: cherimoyas! Not ready to eat until they're squishy anyway, then u go at it with a spoon & it's like custard. Ugly on the outside so most folks here ignore them.

Beim Thema Hunger denkt man oft nur an Staaten des globalen Südens und vergisst dabei, dass auch eigentlich wohlhabende Länder Hunger und Mangelernährung stillschweigend hinnehmen.

Kinder sollten nicht hungrig zur Schule gehen. Menschen, die ihr Leben lang gearbeitet haben, sollten im Alter nicht in Armut leben. Eltern sollten ihre Kinder nicht nur irgendwie ernähren, sondern im besten Fall sogar gesund und mit einer guten Nährstoffversorgung. 🧵/1
