Recording the biodiversity of Barrambin / Victoria Park. Any observation made in Barrambin / Victoria Park is included in this project. (No need to join the project, or manually add the observations to it.) GIICA plans to fence off most of Barrambin / Victoria park on the 1st of June 2026 in preparation for building a stadium in the middle of what was promised to remain the biggest inner-city park in Meanjin / Brisbane. With this project, we can create a snapshot of the park's biodiversity before (and if) it is irreversibly impacted by large-scale, multi-year construction works. Last week, I organised a Bioblitz to kick off collecting as many #iNaturalist observations as possible before they kick us out.
The collection continues, so I encourage locals to go enjoy the park while they can while contributing to iNat so we can have a better baseline of what #biodiversity exists and is at risk of being lost.

Join the protest on Sunday 31st of May, 12 pm, outside the Herston Road entrance to the park. Bring you signs, your voices, your family, your music.
That will be the last day GIICA will let us use these 32 hectares of green space, and sit under centuries-old gum trees animals call home before they cut them down.

This is 6 years before the games, without having released a construction plan for the public to review.
That would require kicking out the First Nations camps on this culturally and historically significant site – during National Reconciliation Week.
