Brisbane Olympics Stadium Work Begins at Victoria Park, June 01 | Meyka

Brisbane begins 2032 Olympics stadium construction at Victoria Park after protesters removed. AUD 3.6 billion project underway.

This is a good video for a bit of background on the flip-flopping, the ballooning of costs, and the insults hurled by the government at campaigners concerned about First Nations peoples' rights and the environmental damage.

Even if you're not local, you can contribute by identifying observations to refine the data:

Eventually, observations that reach a consensus end up in other databases, like the Atlas of Living Australia.

This is a report from the ALA for the same area. It lists 21 "threatened species".

GIICA want to fence off most of #Barrambin / #VictoriaPark this Monday 1st of June - in less than 3 days!

This is 6 years before the games, without having released a construction plan for the public to review.

That would require kicking out the First Nations camps on this culturally and historically significant site – during National Reconciliation Week.

Our green lungs are being sold off.

See below what we can do.

Iron rings lining the edge of the pond in Victoria Park in Glasgow. In the past, these would've been used to secure a fleet of paddle boats which could be hired by visitors. Such boats could be found in a number of Glasgow Parks up until the 1970s (and possibly a bit later in some of them), and were a perfect way to while away a sunny day like to day.

Observe local species May 15–31 for International Day for Biological Diversity! Join this project so your observations count. Together, we create a global snapshot of life on Earth. The theme of IDB 2026 is "Acting locally for global impact." This project is our iNaturalist contribution to that vision. When you document the plants, fungi, animals, and other species in your backyard, neighborhood, or local wild places, you're not just sharing something beautiful: you're contributing to a living record of global biodiversity. How to participate: - Join this project (required for your observations to be included) - Observe any wild species in your area between May 15–31 - Focus on what's around you: quality and local knowledge matter more than quantity - Learn more about IDB 2026: https://www.cbd.int/biodiversity-day/2026 May 22 is International Day for Biological Diversity itself — a great day to head outside! Every observation adds to a collective dataset used by scientists and conse...
