First observation of a Pale-Headed Rosella at #Barrambin, observed by prolific #iNaturalist contributor Sylvia:

https://inaturalist.ala.org.au/observations/366590896

That makes 39 species of birds recorded there:

Last day before fences completely close up. Protest against the stadium at 12 pm today, starting from Herston rd entrance.

I couldn't position myself to get the framing of this photo where I wanted it, but still, I found the conjunction of the airport control tower, the anchored boat interesting,

I really wanted to move to the left further and put the boat to the right of the tower, but I'd had to have gone swimming to make that work :)

Another way #OpenStreetMap contributors can help this weekend is by mapping on site the precise position of individual notable trees in the area planned to be fenced.
If the tree has a metal tag, add the number to the "ref" key so we can match them to databases like this one: https://www.savevictoriapark.com/trees

(Please no armchair mapping from imagery, this needs current, up to date data.)

This is a good video for a bit of background on the flip-flopping, the ballooning of costs, and the insults hurled by the government at campaigners concerned about First Nations peoples' rights and the environmental damage.

Happy #olympicGames everyone. It's 2026 and we're still kicking First Nations people off their land. History repeating to build a stadium we don't need. For a two-week event in 2032.

Fuck the Olympic Games, fuck Queensland Police, fuck the Queensland Government, fuck BCC and fuck GIICA.

In 24 hours, we managed to upload 232 observations.

One week later, we've added 45 species to the list. There are now 348 taxa recorded at #Barrambin :

But there's lots more to explore and record, so if you're a local, please have a wander and contribute your snaps to the database! Every #iNaturalist observation that falls in that area makes it into the list automatically.

A stadium doesn't belong here.

Barrambin / Victoria Park

Recording the biodiversity of Barrambin / Victoria Park. Any observation made in Barrambin / Victoria Park is included in this project. (No need to join the project, or manually add the observations to it.) GIICA plans to fence off most of Barrambin / Victoria park on the 1st of June 2026 in preparation for building a stadium in the middle of what was promised to remain the biggest inner-city park in Meanjin / Brisbane. With this project, we can create a snapshot of the park's biodiversity before (and if) it is irreversibly impacted by large-scale, multi-year construction works. This project includes observations from two iNaturalist "places": - the first version of the park extent: https://www.inaturalist.org/places/victoria-park-barrambin-brisbane-australia - another park extent created for this project, based on the OpenStreetMap extent, which includes the section along Victoria Park Road, under the QUT campus. It has a 50 m buffer added to catch observations at the margins of th...
