Pfizer is now manufacturing and selling #Lucira rapid #COVID19 & flu tests! These molecular tests are more accurate than antigen #COVID tests and catch infection earlier. (There was a manufacture/sale pause while Pfizer bought Lucira.)

https://www.lucirabypfizer.com/why-lucira says: buy them at online & in-person retailers and pharmacies. I see one listing on Amazon for USD$50 each.

The site for health professionals https://www.lucirabypfizer.com/hcp/ordering mentions several wholesale distributors but I can't easily find pricing.

Following up again on my issues with #Lucira #covid tests. I think I have an answer! Several other #CovidCautious people I know told me they've had problems with #LuciraTests expiring in Oct. 22, 2023, and since those expiration dates haven't been extended, they think that the tests are just too close to expiring to work properly.

It's frustrating that despite what we're told, we don't have the tools to manage #covid19, at least not on our own as individuals—we don't have easily accessible and reliable tests, we don't have vaccines that prevent illness and transmission, and we don't have #MaskMandates or #PaidSivkLeave in the US. Now one of the few tools I thought I had—Lucira tests—are also becoming unreliable and inaccessible. But it's comforting to know at least the issue was with the tests and that I wasn't doing something wrong, other than expecting the test to work up until their expiration dates 🙄

Posting again about my issues with #Lucira #covid19 tests. I have taken three tests today, only have one left, and two of them have just given me the "all lights flashing, inconclusive" result. I'm hoping test three gives an actual result, but is anyone else getting these issues with Lucira? Is there a way to avoid them? For context, the expiration date on these is October 22, 2023, so in theory they should be working, but it is getting expensive, time consuming and extremely frustrating to have to take multiple tests to try to get an accurate result.

I'm thinking it's time for me to suck it up and get the Metrix #covid tests, but they're so very, very expensive! But on the other hand, today I essentially just spent $60 on useless Lucira tests, so...

Is anyone else who's #CovidCautious noticing the quality of #Lucira #covid19 tests seems to be...lacking? I assume their results still very accurate, but anytime I take one, it almost always gives the "inconclusive" result, so I have to take another one, and I end up having to wait over an hour to figure out if it's safe for me to see high risk friends or not while also more quickly using up my dwindling supply.

I'm also noticing that many boxes seem to have pieces missing, usually the nasal swabs, so I end up using a swab from some rapid antigen tests that are about to expire, and I'm not sure if that impacts the quality of the result or not.

Is this happening because the only Lucira tests left are close to their expiration dates? Is it because they're likely from when Lucira was going bankrupt? Has anyone else noticed this? And does anyone know if Pfizer has any plans to make these tests available again in the future?

Still waiting for Pfizer to start selling #Lucira tests again. In the meantime:

Thanks @elysdir for posting https://mastodon.social/@elysdir/110923500723187874 about a sale on Cue Health readers & test cartridges. Like Lucira, Cue does rapid NAAT (more reliable than antigen tests).

USD $550 (+shipping) for reader + 10 tests, which is usually like $800. https://shop.cuehealth.com/products/bundle-10-pk

And: a sale on tests that expire in 1.5-3 months:

10 COVID-19 Tests & Cue Reader

Today is 10 days post exposure to #Covid at work. #Lucira #NAAT #MolecularTest shows a negative!

Because NAAT offers a 95 to 99% accurate result (as long as the sample was collected properly), I feel confident that this negative result is a true negative.

No symptom development. Rigorous #N95 use, plus nasal spray & mouthwash, works ✅

Lucira Check It COVID-19 Test with LUCI PASS™

I’ve used the #Lucira for COVID before but recently tried this for #COVID & #influenza. They remain too expensive for widespread use but have excellent sensitivity and specificity.

My question for #IDMastodon & #MedMastodon is this: how helpful do you think widespread use of rapid NAAT would be? Where do you see the role of rapid #diagnostics for respiratory viruses?
