I’m increasingly cautious when updating apps - checking to see in the app reviews if the creator decided to do something sleazy like suddenly add a #paywall or #loginwall, basically downgrade what they made.
This degradation of trust is going to cause people to stop updating their software (or even hardware firmware) because, despite that critical security update, they are afraid some sleazy AI shit or forced login or paywall or other shit will be addded.

To me it's absurd that people ever used #Discord when #Github, #Mumble, #IRC & Co. all predated it.
The sheer fact that their ToS are inacceptable and that they actively ban better 3rd party clients as well as #loginwall all content makes it useless for any #FLOSS projects.

I saw discussion elsewhere about #paywall #loginwall #spywall et al, and it sparked two #thoughts.
1. Since changing #browser settings to #javascript off default & whitelist sites I actually use I have been having such a better #ux. many news paywalls are stupidly just #js enacted, so disabled.
2. Is there a #mastodon / #fediverse site that renders plain #html instead of this annoying #dhtml cruft? I would love to be able to just… read or print threads or something without all [gestures] this.
