Debian's Challenge When Its Developers Quietly Drift Away

You may recall the news last month around no one was left on Debian's data protection team and other volunteer staffing challenges with different Debian efforts in the past

A long while ago, years ago, I picked up a Dell Inspiron 530 with the Celeron450, over time I picked up a PCIe Network Card, 1Gb Ethernet Network Adapter, a Internal USB 2.0 PCI Card, 5 Port (4 External & 1 Internal) PCI Expansion to USB 2 Adapter Hub, 2 ARCTIC P9 PWM PST - PC Fans, a Western Digital 2TB WD Blue PC Internal Hard Drive, a GeForce GT 610 and some thermal paste, all of this here and there over the years and in a box parts all sat, see when I got the 530 I had plans of making a Sleeper FIle Server for myself, but at the time my landlord need a computer to use theirs had just died, and at the time I thought it was just going to be momentary, but turned into years, so here and there I collected and stored for its eventual return, well there hard drive finally gave up the ghost and well the 530 simply worn out, I brought it back in with me, I cleaned it out, gave it fresh thermal paste, added the new fans, the pcie and pci I added the graphics card, slapped in the new drive, installed #LinuxLite, set up #samba, #ssh, #ufw, then I had 3 WDP10 drives that I stuffed in the case and plugged into that usb pci hub, after install update getting it all working, I shut it out from the outside world with ufw, and all my files are on one little machine that could, running cool around 40c 48c under full load, and with the display shut off, and even if I could manage to use all it's power 24/7 the way I have it setup will cost $12 a month to keep on, no more plugging and unplugging usbs, no more overloading a daily machine with files to slow it down, no it may have taken years and it may be on one tired out machine most would have tossed out a long time ago, I finally have a file server that will serve me for years to come, age everything ages, everything wears out everything breaks, everything deserves the respect and attention to restore it to use it as it is, not toss it out, we toss out so much junk, junk that can always serve a purpose, sadly far to often people are also tossed out because we are old, agging, worn out, broken, ignored for our experiences disregarded for our usess, because no one is willing to take the time to knock the dust off give a little compassion and offer a little dignity for the use we may have left;

You can encourage my continued useless #poetry, creativity and expression of self, #commentary, random thoughts, #philosophy and ideas, and by doing so your helping to feed, house and clothe a #disabled man living in #poverty, $5-10-15 It All Helps, via #cashapp at $woctxphotog or via #paypal at paypal.com/donate?campaign_id=…
