#popos #cosmic week 1 update:

Definitely bugs with individual apps. #Obsidian seems especially angry, caused a full desktop crash and sometimes the window buttons stop working.

#Nextcloud also unhappy and won't show the main window at all, so I can't use it effectively (can't resolve file conflicts etc.).

Panel icons seem to be troublesome with Discord, protonvpn.... the icon menus just seem to be nonfunctional in some cases.

Panel behavior is annoying.... keeps filling space to the right but not to the left leaving a very uncentered look and premature icon collapsing.

I tried a `pop-upgrade release upgrade -f` and it seemed to do a lot of stuff but reported failure. On reboot it had completely wiped my #Librewolf installation? Had to re-install from flatpak.

Still enjoying it a lot more than #gnome and it's so fast. I found the theming support and installed "cosmic tweaks" for more theme control. Still not close to Windows theming but it gives basic theming control.

Looking forward to full release.

I have "design" a minimalistic wallpaper for my upcoming icon theme for Cosmic DE. It's pretty simple, yet powerful. The full theme of this is called "Cosmictron" :D. I love simplicity.

As a dedicated procrastinator I'm pleased to already see 186 themes available in Cosmic tweaks (part of cosmix-saigon) 😜

Cosmix-Saigon is up for grabs! It is a custom spin on NixOS, using the Cosmic desktop environment, changing channels and using the latest kernel.
It is based on the Nixbook project by @codemonkeymike

The goal is to make a set-and-forget setup, where both the OS and the applications (flatpaks) are updated automagically.

RMFM and get going, you can find it at (https://codeberg.org/thesaigoneer/cosmix-saigon) and jump into that Cosmic beta!

Pretty impressed with #COSMIC Desktop now that I've had a chance to play with the beta. The window borders are very similar to my #KDE Plasma + Klassy setup, which I love. It seems like it already has more features & customization options than #GNOME, so I see myself choosing COSMIC over GNOME once it hits stable release. Of course, I'd still choose Plasma over either at this point. I love having options, though! Excited to watch the progress on this one. #linux

So far, the only major issue I've had running the beta of COSMIC in Pop OS is that of printing support. Fortunately, this is a known issue, with printing support to be added later.

I also use abraunegg's version of the onedrive client, which doesn't seem to be running in the background automatically. Launching the monitor via the terminal works.

So, after nearly a week of use, I'm overall pretty happy with it despite its shortcomings as beta software. Can't wait for its full release!

Remember those keyboard shortcuts in Cosmic? As a also-die-hard window manager user I do like the drag and drop into various layouts in the tiled overview. Nice hints also. Never been stacking that much before, willingly or unknowingly 😆
It all serves the procrastinator in me very well.
