Long before Criterion box set Always for Pleasure, Les Blank’s J'ai été au bal/I Went to the Dance (1989) was my first introduction to not only the documentarian’s work but to cajun and zydeco music.
Now they are releasing the film in restored 5K at IFC Center on 9/1. If you want to brighten up your day and enjoy some great music, please go see it.

Just finished watching "A Poem is a Naked Person," Les Blank's 1974 quasi-documentary about #LeonRussell.
Very strange--it's #LesBlank after all--but quite good. I really enjoyed the rock, blues, bluegrass and gospel jam sessions with Leon Russell and many musical luminaries.
Warning: there is a scene of a boa constrictor eating a chick. Strange indeed!
