Even though not a lot of Hanover’s old town centre is left, the area at the river still looks quite medieval when you just show certain parts.

I had a look at the wave machine for surfers that was installed not too long ago, but of course it was not running that early at the morning. Instead there were some pigeons trying to find a nesting place.

The photo at the end was taken at a different location but it’s still the same river. I was under a bridge and noticed the white line (cast by a gap in the bridge) dancing on the water.

From Maschsee I went to the ‘fast ditch’ (Schneller Graben) but not without admiring the ‘Boulevard of Sighs’ 😆 (Seufzerallee) first. The latter is an old walking path with loads of willows (the true origin of the name has been lost over time).

The ‘fast ditch’ with its hydropower station wasn’t so fast today, it was actually very calm.

On this warm morning I went to Hanover’s Maschsee taking the route on the old railway embankment with its beautiful steel bridges. Spring is glorious!

What a joy, one of my favourite bridges in Hanover has been reopened! 🎉

A ramp was added to the bridge at the hydropower station near Wasserkunst so that it’s now possible to access both sides easily when using wheels of whatever kind (not by car or motorbike I should point out 😅). It took much longer than expected to install this but they did a good job.

All that’s left to do now is to put a nice mural of trees or other plants on that beige side of the Wasserkunst building, that would most likely also stop people from trying out their tagging talents at that location.

The river Leine is carrying a lot of water at the moment, so much that the flood plains are partly under water.

I went to check out a currently cut off area, the Wasserkunst at Ernst-August-Kanal. There is a currently closed bridge that was missing a ramp for cyclists and pedestrians and construction on said ramp is still going to last until April (from what I’ve read). I can’t wait for the bridge to be back in action, it’s a valuable connection for cyclists.

There’s another bridge not too far away from here that I’ve never been able to use as I didn’t even know it existed until it was closed off to replaced. That one is taking it’s sweet time, I think it’s two years already.

A third bridge in between these two was also closed for a while but thankfully it was quickly back in action.

There is talk about closing yet another bridge over the river as it needs to be replaced, that one is in Linden and it’s very busy with cyclists and pedestrians every day. Having that one closed will hurt a lot.
