All of a sudden it got noisy out there, on closer look it seemed like a bird choir had taken hold of our nearby poplar trees, competing with the evening song of a local blackbird. As suddenly as they had appeared, they were gone again but not without some flying around first.

Today I went over to the Eastern side of Hanover, an area I don’t get to very often. Together with a friend I visited a photography exhibition in the humongous Hannover Medical School (MHH) and we saw many images that we found interesting.

I was also curious about a nearby Chinese restaurant that resides in a glass pyramid and about the huge ‘new’ TV tower in the same neighbourhood. The restaurant didn’t really convince us but the high tower was every bit as imposing as it looks from home which is over 9 kilometres away. Unfortunately the weather wasn’t playing nice.

I’ve also added a colourful photo I took by accident as I like it.

We have this tiny old cinema (Apollo Kino) in Hanover that has existed since 1908. They show a bespoke choice of movies and doing just that saved it in the 70s (the guy responsible at the time later set up the big Cinemaxx chain). It was here where I watched the Rocky Horror Picture Show in the 80s.

I was there on Wednesday and thought I’ve seen it in worse condition so I took a photo from the inside and then also from the entrance/exit that got closed with a big metal door as we were there for the last show of the day.

Another train trip, this time to Osnabrück on a route I know well from my days when I was living in the Netherlands but I had never stopped there. My child and I went for an appointment but of course I wanted to see at least a little bit of the old city centre, so on our way back to the station we decided to get off the bus early. It was a very pleasant area, mostly free from snow and ice, but my brain wasn’t on full capacity and I think it’s probably worth coming back at a warmer time of the year 🥶😅

The trip itself went really well, just a few minutes of being late here and there, mostly owed to the freezing weather. There weren’t many people on the train either which made it even better.

After a great lunch I did a little bit of shopping in town and on my way to the bus stop I saw that they were taking down the Christmas pyramid. Closer to the bus stop I heard music and eventually spotted a piano player near the opera house. And yes, the opera house looked just stunning in the winter sun 🌞
