From Steintor station in Hanover you can see this shiny building, the Gehry Tower.
(I had these two photos sitting on my phone for nearly a year, always forgot to use them.)

Three photos from this lovely sunny afternoon, perfect for a quick ride on my bicycle. 😊

Photo 3 is a vertical pano photo, and I like it best as it catches a lot of the sky and the sun. I cut the bottom off as it didn’t add anything to the scene.
(Because the other photos have very different dimensions I post them separately.)

Photo 2 is a horizontal pano photo to catch the whole scene but it didn’t get enough sky.

Photo 1 is a “normal” photo, no change to the lense made (I think).

I was grateful for the clouds. It was a lot cooler today because of them.

I didn’t go cycling this morning because it was raining a lot - but I still loved the rain! So needed.

The Wasserkunst (the old water power station for the Herrenhausen Gardens) is back in full glory without ugly fences. Instead there is CCTV.

The other two photos show the old sluice gates that regulate the water flow of the Ernst-August-Kanal.

Wasserkunst Herrenhausen – Wikipedia

After the stairwell visit I got to see very entertaining short movies and an art exhibition in the Künstlerhaus (“artists’ house”). I liked the view through the windows, unfortunately the huge chandelier on the road doesn’t stand out much in daylight.

The next stop was the Laves House, a building created as residence by and for the architect Georg Ludwig Friedrich Laves who was once Hanover’s “Court Master Builder”. This building is now home to the Lower Saxony Association of Architects.

The last but one station was a museum for caricature and drawings in the Herrenhausen Gardens, usually simply called the Wilhelm-Busch-Museum after a famous German humorist, poet, illustrator, and painter. I only took a photo of the stairwell there but the exhibition was very engaging.

Finally we made it to the museum in the rebuilt palace of Herrenhausen Gardens. I have to say I’m not a fan of the lay-out of that place and also not of the design of the first two exhibition areas but I did like the third area with its photos and paintings of nature and of squares in Hanover. I didn’t take any photos there.

On my way home I chose the dark route along the Großer Garten (Great Garden, the most formal one of the collection of parks) and was able to admire the illuminations and reflections.

Yesterday we had the yearly Night of Museums in Hanover where you get access to various participating museums and galleries for a small fee. The first stop was the Cumberlandsche which is a bar and club in Hanover’s most beautiful staircase (their slogan). It certainly is spectacular.

The staircase used to be part of a gallery building housing the art collection of the Duke of Cumberland (then Ernst-August zu Braunschweig-Lüneburg) but it was destroyed in WWII, only the staircase remained (the art was saved).

These days it is used as a bar but also to stage small plays, it belongs to the Schauspielhaus Hannover (a theatre).
