Now that I have my container databases and configurations backed up, I feel much better.

@atrapavistas I'd go with #kopia .This includes encryption, so no need to have #veracrypt on the external disk additionally.

Maybe not straight forward, but a great tool function wise.

Fast and Secure Open-Source Backup Software for Windows, Mac, and Linux

@plsik @Big_Blue_Gnu @syncthing Well, #kopia does exactly that 😏

@plsik @Big_Blue_Gnu @syncthing I'm still not sure of what you want :)
* You want a *second* backup locally on a disk?
* You want a real time backup (in case thats not what proton does)?

Anyway, then syncthing isnt your friend.

For a local backup you could take a look at #kopia

if you fear getting "mined", you will obviously dont want a "sync" (as in two-way comparison of folders) but a manually triggered copy of your files to an external disk.

I'm looking at how best to teach my child about backups on their computer.

Initially I want to teach something simple, an external hard drive, and perhaps a version controlled backup system.

Unfortunately this need to be on Windows, but I'd prefer an open source solution.

I've looked at e.g.
https://www.xda-developers.com/best-open-source-backup-options/
And it seems like Kopia might be a good option.

Any input?

S3 Storage At Home With Garage Part 3: In Practice

Now that we have our own local S3 storage with garage and it is reachable via the standard https: route, let’s start doing things with it. Benchmarks! Backups of machines in the local network and maybe more!

Today I want to thank the teams and communities behind

for delivering (major) updates of their software (which if course is Open Source) that consistently JustWork™ in my experience, making the update process simple, reliable and, yes, fun! I know how hard that is and I tip my hat to all of you and many other projects that do the same.
