Over £7.4m has been secured for new bike lanes, footpaths, and active travel infrastructure across the
#Liverpool City Region, including
#Halton,
#Knowsley,
#Liverpool,
#Sefton, St Helens, and
#Wirral. This funding, from the government’s Active
#Travel Fund, will improve connections between existing and planned routes, promoting
#walking,
#cycling, and wheeling as safer alternatives to car use. Additional funds will support projects like
#cycle safety training, secure bike parking, and social prescribing schemes for health and wellbeing. The investment is part of a wider plan to create a 600km network of walking and cycling routes, with 148km already delivered. This forms part of Mayor Rotheram’s plan for an integrated, London-style
#transport system. Other major investments include over 100 zero-emission
#buses, a new Mersey Ferry, and improvements to St Helens town centre and the Liverpool Baltic rail station.
