UK, the working class’s support for Starmer’s Labour is collapsing: workers are moving towards Farage’s party.

British workers are turning their backs on Labour and falling into the arms of ultra-conservative Nigel Farage. A poll by JL Partners, published on the front page by The Times, shows very discouraging results for the party led by Keir Starmer. In the last two years, the consent of unionized workers, once a key electoral base for the center-left, has suffered a vertical collapse. According to the study, the Labour Party has lost 20 percentage points since 2024, that is, since Starmer took office as Prime Minister.

The traditionally left-leaning political sympathies of the members of the main trade union movements today indicate a head-to-head between those who remain loyal to the Labour Party and those who have now aligned themselves with Reform UK, a right-wing anti-immigration and pro-Brexit (almost Trumpian) formation led by Farage. The survey shows them side-by-side and accredits a 28% of support for each of the two parties.

“Shocking results, but not surprising,” commented Sharon Graham, leader of the Unite union. “And that’s because at the May local elections, Reform had already gathered abundant support in what were once strongholds of the center-left.” “This poll tells me exactly what I saw during the election campaign. The Labour Party is no longer the party of the working class,” commented Farage, speaking with The Times.

The leadership of the TUC, the main coordinating body of British trade unions, and Unite, the soul of the trade unionist left, now openly say they are worried and launch the alarm. The numbers also risk rekindling the fire of the internal revolt within Labour against Starmer’s leadership – in crisis due to the economic situation, the Epstein-Mandelson scandal and above all the devastating electoral debacle at the local elections of May 7th, followed by a flurry of resignations – awaiting the supplementary election on June 18th, which should bring back to Parliament its main potential challenger: Manchester’s progressive mayor, Andy Burnham.

GB OPINION POLL ACCURACY

Overall, the GB opinion polling average overestimated Labour, underestimated the Conservatives, were all over the place with Reform and missed the increase in votes for 'Other' parties/candidates.

The most accurate, however, in order, were:

1. Norstat UK Polls (#Norstat)
2. Verian Group (#Verian)
3. JL Partners Polls (#JLPartners)

All of them were less than 2 points off the actual result for each party on average.

Difference in number of seats won by a party compared to their final MRP projection:

🔴 Labour: -31
🔵 Conservatives: +10
🟠 Liberal Democrats: +14
🟡 SNP: -6
⚪ Reform UK: +4
🌻 Plaid Cymru: +1
🟢 Greens: +3

However, their individual constituency estimates were noticeably worse than YouGov's.
