Now that Peter #Thiel has fled to Argentina, I have to wonder what is going through the minds of our Nazi politicians, #ICE agents, and #ExtremeCourt #Injustices who are still going all-out with the subversion of democracy and human rights — filling concentration camps with people of color, retroactively #gerrymandering and overturning elections they've already lost, twisting the #Constitution (which was already a charter for #plutocracy) into a charter for #dictatorship, denying self-determination to #trans people and to cis #women, and all the rest of it.
Do they really still think they're going to win this? Or do they just have no idea what else to do; are they incapable of imagining an exit strategy and a way to try to cut their losses? Or — and this is the most plausible story I've thought of yet — are they #desperadoes who believe that at this point they're in so deep that no further crimes they commit could possibly make their ultimate fate any worse than it already will be?
If it's the last, I'd encourage them to ask themselves why #Orbán in #Hungary chose to accept his electoral defeat and step down, rather than simply lying outrageously about the vote counts and trying to hang on to power. He understood very clearly that if he made a violent #revolution necessary, he could very easily suffer consequences far more drastic than any that #Magyar's prosecutors would be likely to impose. He didn't want to end up with his head on a pike.
