After seeing #Perseverance and #Ingenuity report regularly in metric units, it's disappointing to see #NASA regressing to miles, cubic feet and pounds. For #Artemis2, no metric units at all.

American exceptionalism at its worst. Another lost opportunity to synchronize with the rest of the world.

I am trying to educate myself about the relationships between #TeleologicalEvolution, #eschatology, and #soteriology and these are so entwined and complex and deeply historical that, in this case, I don't want #AI getting in the way of my own capacity to understand this stuff.

A new technology from #NASA #JPL enables #Perseverance to figure out its whereabouts without calling humans for help.

Dubbed Mars Global Localization, it features an algorithm that compares panoramic images from the rover’s navigation cameras with onboard orbital terrain maps, and runs on the CPU originally used by Perseverance to communicate with #Ingenuity. Calc's a fix in 2min with 25cm accuracy.
