For example, we used to pick on the number of decimal digits the #Ingenuity team gave about the expected length of its flights or the flight duration (3 and 2 decimal digits!).

It seems everything #Ingenuity 's design team tried was innovative and accomplished much more than was expected.

Unfortunately, instead of building on their success, the Biden administration and then Trump's decided that "colonizing Mars" by subsidized, billionaire run "space economy" was a better choice.

Also worth mentioning is the fact that #Ingenuity's base station assembled out of COTS parts has suffered only the loss of 25 bits of memory out of 1 GB of RAM, which were isolated so that the new MGL algorithm could run.

The little #MarsHelicopter concept, including its innovative design both in aerodynamics and in electronics, proved to be much more useful than initially anticipated. No fanfare, big budget or hype, just very capable and passionate people doing their best.

i still miss #Ingenuity 😭

This image of #Ingenuity's #Flight9 shows one of Phil Stooke's beautiful maps that include many of the mapping points I noted above.

My personal touches to the #Mars2020 mission maps include:

• the use of RMCs (Rover Motion Counter) with/instead of Sols for marking locations (see the official #NASA description in the 2nd & 3rd image below)
• the use of relative (referenced to the landing location's altitude) instead of absolute altitudes in contours
