Richard W4\G7EIXTurns out that IBM Model M is a Silver Label and is quite in demand... who knew (lots of people except me!).
I stripped it and cleaned it. Thinking about getting a Model M to USB conversion board for it.
@Sturmflut oh yeah, most computers that you were able to do serious work on were extremely expensive. Yes, #commodore64 and #zxspectrum were cheap but you weren't going to run your accounting firm or write novels on those. My mom had a #ibmpcat 286 that she used for work throughout the 1990s, long after it had become obsolete, until the need to use the Web and Microsoft Office got her to switch it out for a Pentium in like 2000 or so.

🐘 Basic RAM is already included on it.
🧠 The 386 processor doesn't require any additional cooling.
🎓 For higher performance, a math coprocessor 80287 was needed.
⌨️ The only built-in peripheral connection is for the keyboard.

In the true days of yore it was known as "entering SETUP”.
SETUP was the name of the program, and having it in ROM (instead of on a special "SETUP disc" as on the PC/AT and some Compaq machines) was a luxury introduced by the PC/AT cloners. Around 1986 a generic GSETUP program, that could run on DOS instead of being bootstrapped straight from floppy, was published. But having SETUP in ROM soon became the norm.
