Yesterday I noticed a license plate with the letters PIF, and that got me thinking about Program Information Files, which were used in Windows 3 and 3.1 to hold information about DOS mode programs. You could specify the video mode or any command-line arguments. I remember reading that they originated in OS/2 and were carried over to Windows.
I will never, ever use any of this information ever again. Why does it come to mind so readily when I cannot remember for the life of me the names of my daughter’s friends and their parents?!
