Shit happens! No one should be judged.

But, can one do better?

Maybe there could be a better user guiding for new registrations in
#Matrix #Apps (#Element, #ElementX) to give a better choise for #Homeservers instead to lead people always to matrix.org.

Just came across this lovely copypasta rant about the types of selfhosters and #homeservers :

Reading all this I was A) grinning and B) thinking to myself: Yes I do know some of these words 😄

How do you guys back up your #homelab #homeservers

I am running a #raspberrypi and #docker via casa os with freshrss paperless-ngx a ghost blog and navidrome and jellyfin among a few other less important containers.

For windows I have both image based backups via macrium and file based backups using both syncback to HDD + backblaze for off-site

Linux intermediate I would say in terms of skill level .

Main thing is backing up the docker containers and configs as well as data files os doesn't really matter so image only if it's the easiest .

It's been my impression that Mastodon users are a bit more techie than most people.

So I'm curious to know just how techie, and today's question is:

Do you have a server in your home?

If you want to tell me what you use it for as a reply, that would be interesting.

(Boosts for extra reach appreciated)

Hey all you #HomeLab types!

I am currently running an old desktop with Debian to run #PiHole on my home router and computers. When I set it up, I did a crappy job and now everything is out of date, etc. and want to start over.

I don't have any real strong network needs, although I suppose remote backups would be nice to add to PiHole.

I am considering running #ProxMox as the server. Is this going to make my life easier? Is there a good starter guide for a simple set up?

Are there other alternatives I should consider?

Thanks in advance!

What if instead of a #sbc I used a proper server for my home hosted services ?

What could I consider to buy ?

I'm planning to move my home servers to my Bangkok (Thailand's capital city) house - this is due to the fact that:

  • I'm moving back to Bangkok this August
  • Some uncertain situation at the current server location

Hopefully, I can "move" the internet plan to my house (that is what my dad told me tho)

Finally got around to upgrading my Ubuntu 18.04 home server to 20.04 last night. The upgrade went fairly smooth, though #nextcloud decided that it wasn't happy with that idea and refused to start (only application on the box to have issues). After an hour of trying to figure out what the hell was going on, I ran the occ repair command and all of a sudden it was happy again. No idea what caused the issue though, but I'll try a 22.04 upgrade later. #Homeservers #dev #homehosting
