Not sure it was worth the adventure, but it's up and running. I installed a #pihole on my home network. I spent about $70-ish on a Raspberry pi 3b+ from adafruit. That didn't come with a micro sd card so I spent another $25 on amazon for 32Gb card. Then messed around for 2 evenings with various configs and setup. Now it's running ... but I still can't block youtube ads on my google tv which is a bummer. But the even bigger bummer is the youtube content has pretty much gone to crap anyway, so maybe it doesn't matter. A lot of my favorite authors are burned out or posting a lot less or just posting less interesting (to me) stuff. Supposedly the pi-hole does knock down a lot of trackers and tracking, so maybe there is a less obvious privacy win.

In den letzten Wochen hatte ich wenig Muse, mich mit #SocialMedia zu beschäftigen. Aus meiner Sicht gehört ein Werbeblocker in jedes moderne Smart-Home. Egal, ob man einen DNS-Dienst wie NextDNS oder AdGuard-DNS nutzt oder lokal eine Lösung wie PiHole oder AdGuard Home betreibt – das Blockieren von Werbung, Tracking und Malware-Domains erhöht nicht nur die Surfgeschwindigkeit, sondern auch die Sicherheit und den Datenschutz aller Geräte im Netzwerk.
