Tryptophan often gets the spotlight during Thanksgiving, with many people blaming it for post-feast drowsiness. However, tryptophan's role in making you sleepy is a bit of a myth. The real culprit behind Thanksgiving food comas is likely the large quantity of food consumed.
As it so happens, turkey doesn't contain more tryptophan than other meats, like chicken and beef. In fact, some foods, like nuts and cheeses, have up to 20 times more tryptophan than turkey.
