Just shy of 1.7 tonne, says Parkers. Full tank of fuel will add just shy of 0.06 tonne to that, says the back of my envelope. At 1 tonne per chock, this should still be within the limit.

Interesting that it's a weld that seems to have gone. And that those other brands don't have a cross-bar there. I wonder why Halfords adds one. It does look like the failure mode that the cross-bar is aimed at mitigating is that U piece deforming outwards and the upper plate sliding down it as it does.

Interesting that some Audi A6's come damn close to that, unladen.

An A6 Allroad Quattro 3.0 TDI comes in at 1945 kg, presumably without fuel in the tank. An A6 Saloon Quattro 2.0 TDI comes in at 1980 kg. (Figures per Parkers.)

However, I notice that Halford's own WWW site does not give a load rating for those chocks, which sets off alarm bells. And they look bloody small compared to your tyres, which is worrisome given the intended function.

Comparable steel chocks, such as the Silverline 525748 or the Heyner UltraStop Pro, seem to only have a rating of 1000 kg per chock, which will be pushing it on those particular A6s with one pair and anything left in the car. There's a greater margin with the less massive models, of course.

I'm with you on returning them, but you might find yourself up against the assertion that a laden A6 exceeds the unadvertised spec.

Why is retail so shit? I cannot get reliable info on the phone or via the web about fitting headlamp beam deflectors to my car. The car had LED lights, four per side, two for 'dip' and all four for 'main beam'. I *think* the beam cut-off is such that I don't need them but my #Kia dealer doesn't know, Kia UK agreed with me on the phone but have declined so far to put it in an email. #Halfords have no clue, and there's a broken link on their website to fitting instructions that might have helped.

Newbie trainee mechanic at #halfords sprays WD-40 onto my bike brake disc caliper, WD-40 (an oil based lubricant) then drips down my rotors. I stand there in shock horror and watch as he applied brakes, coating my brake pads in WD-40. I then demonstrated to him how he'd just destroyed my brakes and just how dangerous that was!

Can imagine a less experienced cyclist then getting on the bike, cycling to next junction, finding they have no brakes and suffering a fatality 😱

#Cycle2Work #SalarySacrifice scheme in UK.
Has anyone looked at the Ts and Cs for this? Just wondering, really. I'm in two minds.

It's weird.

I don't own the bicycle, because the scheme does.
Salary is taken from gross, saving me income tax and NI.
At the end, I can buy it from them at current market price (whatever that is, according to whoever decides) +VAT, or "you can either enter our zero-cost extended hire arrangement", or return it to the shop.

Interestingly, if it's stolen and uninsured, I just pay until the agreed end of term, then nothing happens as far as I can see.

p.s.The scheme seems to be serviced by #Halfords, which may limit the value and/or quality a bit :-)

@dutchbarracuda I bought my e-bike from #Halfords during COVID - it developed a fault that couldn't be fixed as no spare parts available from China - they refunded my money - I bought another bike from them at a considerable discount - it's worked fine #JustSaying #BikeTooter
