If you really hate #capitalism and want #socialism, chances are you LOVE the idea of a #minimumwage.

If you really, really think a minimum wage is a path to ending poverty, just ask yourself this very simple question; why not call up a nation in abject poverty and tell them to mandate a $15/hour minimum wage? I mean, if that ends poverty...why aren't we doing that?

Because even a passing grasp of #economics tells us that, no; minimum wages do not help with #poverty.

Massachusetts became the first state with a #MinimumWage on #ThisDayInHistory in 1912. As markets offer the lowest wage they can, and since our #unions are too weak to fight capital and the desperate will take what they must, such laws are useful but must be set to a #LivingWage.

Minimum wage workers in Australia have been given a 6% pay rise, taking them to $A1000 ($NZ1207) a week. The new minimum hourly rate is $A 26.44 -- equivalent to $NZ 32.04 per hour.

I was surprised to learn that from a population of 28m, only 100,000 people were on minimum wage.
