More Voting Frustration
This week I'm venting about low voting turnout in a recent Oklahoma election.$2.13 sub-minimumwage since 1991 https://cepr.net/publications/the-2-13-subminimum-wage-when-is-enough-enough/
Note: 2009, Congress increased Federal #minimumwage to $7.25 per hour with the Fair Minimum Wage Act of 2007. It has not been increased since.

When #ICE was revising the federal #standards that govern #immigration #detention centers, one of its top contractors privately asked for changes that could benefit its business, acc/to a person briefed on the discussions.
#GeoGroup, which oversees more than a dozen ICE detention facilities, has faced #lawsuits in 3 states alleging it violates #MinimumWage #laws by paying some #immigrant detainees $1 a day to work.

I was today years old when I found out Georgia doesn’t have rent control.

If you really hate #capitalism and want #socialism, chances are you LOVE the idea of a #minimumwage.
If you really, really think a minimum wage is a path to ending poverty, just ask yourself this very simple question; why not call up a nation in abject poverty and tell them to mandate a $15/hour minimum wage? I mean, if that ends poverty...why aren't we doing that?
Because even a passing grasp of #economics tells us that, no; minimum wages do not help with #poverty.
Minimum wage workers in Australia have been given a 6% pay rise, taking them to $A1000 ($NZ1207) a week. The new minimum hourly rate is $A 26.44 -- equivalent to $NZ 32.04 per hour.
I was surprised to learn that from a population of 28m, only 100,000 people were on minimum wage.
