Grand Pré National Historic Site

Part way through one of the most challenging rides I've taken, we stopped at the Grand Pré site to have a snack. When I spotted the huge trunk on this beautiful Willow over our picnic table, I thought it would be perfect for thick trunk Tuesday. So I got Steven to take this picture of me to give an idea of scale.

The ride was actually 56 km in total which was not the most challenging part. What caused us the most difficulty was what I thought would be an easier route across a path which turned out to have 3 km or so of dried straw-like hay on the top of it. We got through it, but it was extremely hard and I twisted my knee at one point as it was so slippery even to stand on. So much for my great ideas!

Annapolis Valley and Harvest Moon Trail bike ride.

This was (probably) our last long trip (of the year) as the weather will be turning cold soon. (Why do I think that makes me sound like I think I'm a rock star?)
It was absolutely gorgeous with the unseasonal warmth and fall colours. It was my longest so far, at 56km, or 35 miles. We had a delicious plant based lunch in Wolfville, sitting on the patio outside the restaurant. A bit windy, but it wasn't cold.
After that we made our way down the Harvest Moon Trail to Grand Pré and Evangeline Beach where we sat and admired the Bay. On the road we were almost dive bombed by lots of screeching bald eagles. (They should have much louder cries for their size, I think.)

The ride was often into that headwind, but sometimes behind us, which was nice!

The video was taken in Lower Canard overlooking the Habitant River and the Minas Basin, part of the Bay of Fundy. We were not far from home. Photos of the map and part of the trail are in the first comment.

I posted this on the old instance, so don't want to lose it.

Beautiful warm ride yesterday, to Grand Pré and beyond, across the Dykeland, to Evangeline beach at low tide. Much of it was below sea level, and flat, as if we were in the Netherlands. Rather too many ugly RVs on the park there, but no one around. The #RailsToTrails path was cinder and maintained, we saw an eagle near her nest on the trail. Worth the ride.
