Did my first vending event without the hubby to assist. Arcata’s Friday Night Market has a slightly different vibe than Eureka’s, but it’s all good.

Still meeting wonderful people who I want to converse with, but tonight it was challenging because I was the only one working in the booth. I think I lost a lot of sales because my hubby wasn’t there to be a second salesperson. There were moments when the booth was quite crowded and the conversationalists seemed to be unaware I needed to pay attention to others besides them…

I need to figure out how to politely excuse myself without offense. still working on it.

But it went well, and I proved to myself that I could do it by myself. I loaded and unloaded the car myself, got all the setup done in 1 hr 15 min, and takedown in 45 min. Then reloaded and unloaded at home. So that was a huge deal for me: proving to myself that in a pinch, it can be done. I feel tired, but it’s a good tired.

Tonight I set up my booth for the first time by myself. I had to do it eventually, so now’s as good a time as any.

it’s a lot of stuff, and while I usually have my husband helping me, he can’t tonight. So it will take me double the time to set it up and take it down. I’m sure I can do it, I just expect it’s going to be a long night. Haha!

Wish me luck!

So a lot has happened this weekend thus far.

Friday was the first #FridayNightMarkets in Arcata, a shift from Eureka to a town 15-minutes north with a large returning college population.

It was awesome.

The first #BlockPartyOnFStreet happened, sponsored by the Redwood Art Association.

Which was awesome.

I won an Honorable Mention in the current Redwood Art Association show for my limited edition signed and numbered framed piece, "Sandpiper Spotlight".

Which was awesome.

I sold the same piece.

I. Am. Floored.

I’ve never sold a piece of my art in a gallery. This is the *third* time I’ve been granted recognition by a guest judge at a show at the member-run Redwood Art Association.

I can’t tell you how much that boosts my confidence and makes me feel like I’m on the correct life path.

I’m… in a spot now where I’m feeling very very much like i’m being guided by the universe toward the right spot. I dunno whether it’s simply my ego or something else, but I’m feeling valued.

I’m strong enough internally to say I desperately needed that.

And I’m also strong enough to know that it’s illusory, and outside validation means nothing if I’m not paying it forward.

So I’m going to pay it forward. Come heck or high water. I’m not so naive to think that this isn’t the universe telling me I have a responsibility to make sure I’m giving back.

Good fortune swings both ways. I’d be stupid if I didn’t “pay it forward.”

So.

’nuff said.

Tonight #FridayNightMarkets shifts from their summer home in Eureka to a month-long stint in Arcata, about 15 minutes north and the home of Cal Poly Humboldt.

I’m excited for the new experience, new attendees, new venue! It should be a lot of fun! We’ll see how it goes!

Tonight’s the last night of #FridayNightMarkets in Eureka before it moves north to Arcata for the month of September.

It has been a fabulous day today with the sun shining and a nice low 60s temp. Soft breeze. I’m thinking tonight may be a busy night as folks come out and swing through for the last time.

We’ll see!

EUREKA FRIDAY NIGHT MARKETS

Had an interesting night at #FridayNightMarkets tonight... It was really nice weather here today in Eureka, in northern California—around 65°F and sunny. So I think tonight’s crowd was very festive, looking to party and socialize, and just interested in getting out of the house after a tough week.

There were more tourists there tonight than in the past, and my sales were lower than usual. I passed out a LOT of business cards as people balanced their beers and wines in their other hand. It was a different crowd than I’ve thus far experienced there.

But I had some fantastic conversations with folks. I made some genuine connections with folks who simply weren’t there to buy anything.

So I guess it takes all kinds of experiences, right?

Tomorrow I prep for a smaller, more intimately-scaled experience at the local Obon Festival put on by our local Humboldt Asian and Pacific Islanders Association, and I’m really looking forward to that! Lots of drums, dancing, and ancestral communing. I think I need something a bit less intoxicated…

Vending at #FridayNightMarkets in Eureka, CA again tonight, where I can interact with people and check in with reality. It’s a lovely day here at 65° with lots of sun. I’m hoping that means people will step out and enjoy the street fair.

I have a new Pelican piece to share as a greeting card, and I want to buy some of my neighboring booth vendor’s tea that she grows and blends herself. I think it’s going to be a good night!

EUREKA FRIDAY NIGHT MARKETS

Got this California Brown Pelican done on my livestream yesterday. It was a request by a couple of patrons who visited my booth a #FridayNightMarkets here in Eureka, CA (north of the Redwood Curtain).

I’m using it for a greeting card as well as another image I’ll be making today that frames it in a stylized Art Nouveau-esque package.

I’ll be making that piece today in Procreate, live on my artstream on Twitch and Moonbeam, 1-4:00pm PDT (UTC-7).

All my work is done by me: #HumanMade. I don’t use any sort of artificial image-generating nonsense. It’s all me.

I had a good night at #FridayNightMarkets last night. I had my best sales yet. And, for the first time, I actually sold two prints. I was floored. It was incredibly validating. I was like—“ Wow, dare I hope I can maybe actually do this?”

And I got to meet some awesome, genuine, friendly people. I heard their stories, made connections, made plans to hob nob with newly found friends, learned about a whole bunch of new opportunities… I’m just… It was a good night. I really really needed it. More than the sales, I needed to get out of my head and actually converse with real people face-to-face.

I was so wired afterwards, it was challenging to get to sleep! And I didn’t sleep much—after four hours I was back up, prepping another submission to another show…

I think I need to crash now.

Tonight I do another Friday Night Markets event here in Eureka as a stationery purveyor.

The novelty has not worn off, and I’m excited to once again share my stuff. If I don’t think of it as a “sales” event and more of a “meet and greet” event, it’s a delight! Compartmentalizing the pressure to sell stuff is really tough, but I’m getting better at crushing it down into a little golf ball deep into my subconscious. It helps my hubby is there to support me, and we have a great time!

I’m taking a bunch of new locally-themed stuff with me tonight, and hoping it’ll go well! But regardless, it will be fun. And I’m learning I have to actively put myself in situations where I’m not online and dwelling on horrors. I have to be purposeful about it. And this is one of those methods I’m using to make myself let go and just be in the moment.

I dunno if anyone from Humboldt County, California, is actually here on Mastodon and even goes to this event. But if you do, I’ll give you a 10% discount at my booth if you mention Mastodon. Jus’ cuz I can!
