Had an interesting night at #FridayNightMarkets tonight... It was really nice weather here today in Eureka, in northern California—around 65°F and sunny. So I think tonight’s crowd was very festive, looking to party and socialize, and just interested in getting out of the house after a tough week.
There were more tourists there tonight than in the past, and my sales were lower than usual. I passed out a LOT of business cards as people balanced their beers and wines in their other hand. It was a different crowd than I’ve thus far experienced there.
But I had some fantastic conversations with folks. I made some genuine connections with folks who simply weren’t there to buy anything.
So I guess it takes all kinds of experiences, right?
Tomorrow I prep for a smaller, more intimately-scaled experience at the local Obon Festival put on by our local Humboldt Asian and Pacific Islanders Association, and I’m really looking forward to that! Lots of drums, dancing, and ancestral communing. I think I need something a bit less intoxicated…
Vending at #FridayNightMarkets in Eureka, CA again tonight, where I can interact with people and check in with reality. It’s a lovely day here at 65° with lots of sun. I’m hoping that means people will step out and enjoy the street fair.
I have a new Pelican piece to share as a greeting card, and I want to buy some of my neighboring booth vendor’s tea that she grows and blends herself. I think it’s going to be a good night!

Had a good time at the Arcata Fairy Festival yesterday. Lots of really incredible families with excited kids and tons—tons—of cosplay! I saw a man in full metal plate armor pushing a baby carriage! It was surreal! Furries and and ears and amazing fairy wings! Who needs a con for cosplay?!? We had all kinds!
We were a stop for a kid’s scavenger hunt with a little animal hidden in our booth, so we saw lots of kids running around with face painting, too!
There were So Many great artists there, and in a Huge variety of creativity. Of course there was a lot of jewelry, but there was stained glass and tie dye and metal sculpture and rugs and wands and 3D printing and it was just over. the. top. with artistry. I was humbled.
And the music. My booth has been set next to samba drumming circles before, where the volume turned my brain to mush for three hours straight and my teeth vibrated. But this time, the music was Celtic and Bluegrass and Jazz band ensembles with appropriate volumes, and it was an absolute joy. So many folks dancing! It was so cool!!
We made some great contacts and some great new friends. I can’t wait to do it again. My best sales day yet. I’m wiped, but very happy.
