It’s been a while since I last posted, so here’s a quick update. I’ve changed universities because my next subject wasn’t offered for several months. I’m now studying a Master of Mental Health Practice and a Master of Counselling, which is an excellent fit. I’ll be able to register with professional counselling bodies upon graduation. I start Monday, and both degrees together will take about three years to complete.
I’ve also begun volunteering with several online peer support groups, which has been meaningful and rewarding.
Health-wise, I recently met with a diabetes educator and started using the Freestyle Libre. It’s impressively accessible with its companion app, which is fantastic for independence. Unfortunately, it isn’t subsidised in Australia for people with type 2 diabetes. At $104 a fortnight, it’s unaffordable long term, so I’m exploring whether I can get it funded through the NDIS once my two-week trial ends.
On a brighter note, I’ve joined a gym program and am absolutely loving the equipment and the sense of progress. It feels empowering to see physical health and mental wellbeing come together so clearly.
