Off Grid - This is a short (21 minutes) but still very informative and well made documentary about mesh networks. As far as I can tell it is corectly displaying the posebillities and limitations of these networks and creates a good depiction of the context of why they get build. If you have never heard of mesh networks or LoRa I would highly recomend watching it. And if you already know about that but need a dose of optimism I still recommend watching it.

"We can build a mesh network spanning all of Europe!" - Yes, we can!

In a time of hopelessness and the widespread feeling of having not alternatives to the world we currently live in, this is a utopia that creates a bit of hope.

As I have been talking with people about Wifi on trains, Wifi in public spaces, etc. in Japan.

So to sum up Wifi in Japan:
public transport mostly no
Shinkansen available but the speed...
public/touristy spots often available but speed...
Bars/restaurants mostly no

Museums Yes & mostly good
Hotels Yes & mostly good

Would I travel without a E-SIM/SIM just relying on free Wifi?! - No.

The attached picture shows the best speedtest result in a Nozomi Shinkansen...
