Time-lapse recording of the center of Nagasaki, with the clouds passing by.

Part 5
Kamome

Although the stations along this route are among the newest, someone clearly neglected accessibility for the visually impaired. The tactile paving is located on the track side of the safety barrier and runs through glass walls where there is no passageway...
Never seen that anywhere else in Japan!

To botch the tactile paving system for the blind on the newest and shortest route with the fewest stations deserves applause ;)

Part 4
Kamome

The trains on the Kamome Shinkasen part are N700S-8000 series.
Basicley the only difference is the colour design and some minor differences.

Designer Eiji Mitooka gave the Headlights black outlines and the center of the nose was painted black in order to have the front of the train resemble a face.
It reminds me of a ferret or weasel.

Yeah there is a Super Mario shinkansen hiding, but it left before I could get over there...

Part 3
Kamome

The switch for the remaining 66km section between Takeo-Onsen to Nagasaki.

The trains are on the same platform, so you only have to walk accross.
As I used a non-reserved seat for the 30min Shinkansen ride, I had to head for the cars 4/5/6.

Part 2
Kamome

So the "real" Shinkansen line is just 66km, which makes it the shortest Shinkasen line.

Around 2/3 you will travel on a Limited Express (Relay Kamome) & only ~1/3 on the Nishi Kyūshū Shinkansen (West Kyushu Shinkansen).
I am wondering if the Kamome service should be called a Shinkansen as the major part is not.

But these discussions about "what's in it for my district" or I will block it, remind me a lot of Austria ;)

Part 1
Kamome

Today my journey takes me from Fukuoka to Nagasaki on a unusual Shinkasen line.

Kamome (seagull) is a Shinkansen service operated on the Nishi Kyushu Shinkansen. It runs between Nagasaki and Takeo-Onsen, where it connects with the Relay Kamome service, which continues to Hakata.

Saga prefecture has refused to allow the construction of the full line (direct connection) as they don't see any advantages for their region.

Weaseling through the Super Mario fans at the station today.
Hakata is absolutely packed, as it's the last day of "Super Mario x JR Kyushu ~ Let's GO KYUSHU!". Many items are limited edition and the lines have a wait time of over 70 minutes!

A swing on a mountain with a view isn't bad at all ;)

I've never seen so many adults on swings.
Practically everyone, including grandmas with walking sticks, tried it out :)

After the clouds have passed, I could enjoy a wonderful time on Mt. Sarakura!

Mt. Sarakura is also one of the "New Three Major Night Views of Japan"!
