I feel like British political discourse could be immeasurably improved by more people either paying attention to what we learned from the #LabourLeaks and the #FordeReport, or just not sharing their political opinions in public.

"It has been a bruising experience for Hinchliff, who until he became an MP last July worked in the charity sector, which has HR departments and codes of conduct that preclude the kind of bullying he has faced in Westminster." Anyone who saw the #LabourLeaks or the #FordeReport will be unsurprised.

Here is how democracy really works...

There are some things you are not allowed to talk about in politics if you want to keep your job. One of those things is how the establishment closed ranks for five years to bring down Jeremy Corbyn.

Good. Labour has finally dropped a case against five former Corbyn-era aides, accused by Starmer and his supporters of leaking hundreds of embarrassing (and in some cases racist) WhatsApp messages from Labour staff hostile to Corbyn.

It's reported to have cost the party an unconscionable £1.5m over the last four years, not to mention the stress to the five accused.

There was never a case: it was pure vindictiveness.

"Over the nearly 40 years that I have been an MP, under any speaker of the House of Commons that I can remember, I would have been called. ... Hester’s abusive comments about me had led the news bulletins that day, and I was referred to several times in PMQs itself."

Her article also refers back to the Forde Report, which documented Labour politicians' horrible comments about her.

Are we back to 2019 again?
There were many factors among them Brexit and the unpopularity of #corbyn

There was also the factionalism within #labour shown in the #FordeReport where left-wing candidates were defunded

But #Brexit was a big factor

One might equally ask why did #Labour have one of the largest swings ever in the run-up to 2017 after their manifesto was released

But neither is really pertinent to the article linked
