Yday: jardinière (with leftover brine for cucumber chunks).
Today, it's relish and garlic dills (not done yet). Local rainbow carrots for the j. The relish ingredients before turning over for the overnight cure.

I got to do something I'd been wanting to do for ~15 yrs: a sale day at the Elmira Produce Auction Coop!
If you go to localish farm markets or indy grocers, chances are what's in your basket came through The Elmira Produce Auction.
It's a fab space where small growers sell their fruits and veg to buyers, for pro kitchens and indy stores from SSM to Simcoe!

So, to celebrate #FoodDayCanada, here's my adventure at EPAC
Each year, I make a dish specifically for #FoodDayCanada.
In the last few years, I've consciously showcased foods brought by people who've made Canada their home. Because their food, and how they've adapted it, is Canadian food, too.
This year, it's a 3rd culture dish: bison samosas. Bison from Oakridge Acres (Ayr), potatoes from my friend's farm (Plattsville), and pastry using Canadian wheat and sunflower oil

Some bought from local independents, some made with Canadian ingredients. It talks to the breadth of what Canadian food is.

Went to FDC's launch graze in Elora on Tues. Loved that it featured what local chefs could do with Canadian ingredients and the global inspirations that reflect who we are as a nation.
