As Food Day Canada draws to a close, let me tell you how I marked this day, which celebrates Canadian food growers, producers, and chefs, and calls on us to recognize the excellence of Canadian agriculture and cuisine. First, a trip to Edmonton’s downtown farmers market, for the best in Alberta and BC produce. #FoodDayCanada #yeg #yegdt #Edmonton #YEGdtMarket #Canada
Next, it was off to the Edmonton Heritage Festival, a 3-day celebration of multiculturalism and community. I was there to judge the entertainment - but I found time to sneak snacks. Today, I sampled foods from the Indonesian, Azerbaijani, Jamaican and Liberian pavilions. (Liberia serves this astonishing dish of stewed goat cooked in sweet potato leaves which I adore - and which I’ve never found outside the festival.) How blessed we are that ALL these dishes are now Canadian food - prepared at the Heritage Festival by passionate amateur chefs with roots around the world. #FoodCanadaDay #yeg #HeritageFestivalEdmonton #EdmontonHeritageFestival
Since video is hard to share by toot, I hope you won’t be offended if I cross post this thread from BlueSky, a sort of sample platter of just some of the entertainment I adjudicated today at the Edmonton Heritage Festival. https://bsky.app/profile/senatorpaulasimons.bsky.social/post/3lvh7dyzvrk2q #yeg #HeritageFestival #yegfest

A little “taste” of the Edmonton Heritage Festival. Amazing drummers and dancers from Azerbaijani pavilion! #yeg #HeritageFestival
