James AkersSeeing the first holiday market invitations finally got me to do a thing I have been procrastinating since July.... make these little pickle ornaments.
I made the first one two years ago for my Mee Maw when her christmas pickle broke when her tree fell over and she couldn't find a small replacement one. The bigger replacement was so easy to find in the pickle hiding game, that she opted instead to use the old broken one for a few years.
So I took some of the Italian neon glass I know an love and made some lil tiny pickles. The more I make the better I get at making them. Now I wanna make more of them and silver the insides, but alas, holiday window season is rapidly approaching, and its neat to see some places using neon for their windows.
The smaller I make the pickles, the easier they are to hide on the tree for pickle game... and easier for me to ship :).

Made it back to my workplace of 10 years ago for their 10th annual NEON festival. NEON in this case stands for New Energy Of Norfolk (Virginia). Since I left there, the Chrysler Museum Glass Studio has expanded, tripling in size.
They still have their daily noon demos and my friends Heather Sutherland and @AbbeyfuckingDivens asked if I wanted to be a part of today's demo. I was able to test out their new manifold cart on wheels and with a microwave I picked up a the local thrift store, light up some blown glass work that Heather made all while hot.
Their new cart has a much nicer manifold than the one I put together over 10 years ago. The Amphitheater hotshop is also much nicer. The public and studio team were dazzled by my race agains the clock, "do it all while hot an clean" performance- all packaged up into an educational 1 hour demo. What fun!

I made these beads at the torch using transparent red and topaz glass, arranging the red beads to one side, and topaz to the other. The focal bead is red glass encased in clear, with fused gold mica on the surface. Handmade glass art from my studio.

I made my Mirror World class some bling out of 6mm glass tubulation. We can all laugh and be shiny together now. I actually didn't make myself one though. I guess I can make it tomorrow. I bent it to my handwriting in cursive with a 6mm sharpie :) . lol happened to be an easy an fun 3 letter phrase that flows nicely.
I sure do love mirroring a bunch of little tubes simultaneously :)
I gotta get a few feet of bright colored silicone or latex tubing. They are meant to be necklaces. They may be fragile during hugs.
Its been nice to teach these classes with Kacie Lees in the evenings and decompress from the hectic week finishing up neon work things ahead of an upcoming midwest road trip! Class and show in Minneapolis and visiting artist 2 day at UW, Madison.
We mirrored so much. Its so fun seeing people get it- and run wild with it.
