Now that the "Mira! Las Cruces" festival is over (I had an excellent couple of days!), it's time to share some new work. I used a range of rich red and topaz shades, transparent and opaque, to make the beads. On a whim I turned the focal bead into a little humanoid figure. This necklace evokes some of the colors of the Southwest generally, and New Mexico in particular. Several different colors of opaque glass used here, with a dark turquoise peeking through the earthy red, orange and yellow tones. I made the central pendant resemble a sort of talisman. This 20 inch necklace is finally finished. Inspired by Hellenistic era apotropaic eye beads, but with a selection of more transparent colors than one would find on ancient examples.
