Bei der Weiterfahrt haben wir auch wieder einen #Martello_Tower gesehen und sind so dicht als möglich hingewandert. Aber im Gegensatz zu dem, den wir bei #Meelick_Quay vor ein paar Tagen gesehen haben, ist dieser in #Privatbesitz und nicht zugänglich.
#Martello_Towers besteht aus 164 einzelnen Türmen, verteilt an wichtigen #Wasserwegen, wurden sie im 18 Jhrd. erbaut und als #Festungen genutzt, um sich vor #Piraten und anderen #Eindringlingen zu schützen.

The ruins of the Kaiserswerth Imperial Palace are located on the banks of the Rhine in the Kaiserswerth district of Düsseldorf. It dates back to a monastery founded by the monk Suitbert(us) around 700, but was then expanded into a mighty fortress under Emperor Frederick Barbarossa at the end of the 12th century and later served as a customs fortress.

Rheinfels Castle is located above St. Goar (Rhine-Hunsrück district, Rhineland-Palatinate) and was founded in 1245. After its expansion into a fortress, it was the largest fortification in the Middle Rhine Valley, but was destroyed by French revolutionary troops at the end of the 18th century.

The fortress of Ardahan (eastern Turkey) above the river Kura, the longest river in the Caucasus (1,364 km). It rises in the province of Ardahan and then flows through Georgia and Azerbaijan into the Caspian Sea.
